Nearly all alkali salts of iron cyanides are very soluble, upon dissolution these double salts dissociate and the liberated metal cyanide complex can produce free cyanide. Heavy metal salts of iron cyanides form insoluble precipitates at certain pH levels. The cyanide ion also combines with sulfur to form thiocyanate, SCN-. Thiocyanate. The preparation and spectral properties of K 3 VO(CN) 5, K 4 V(CN) 7 (H 2 O), K 4 V(CN) 6, and K 7 V(CN) 7 are described. The blue compound obtained when vanadium(III) salts are treated with saturated aqueous potassium cyanide has been isolated as K 35 V(CN) 55 (OH) 0 previously reported preparations of K 2 V(CN) 6,K 3 V(CN) 6 and K 5 V(CN) 5 NO,H 2 O are not confirmed. The detection of complex cyanides in the protoplanetary disk around the young star MWC , and the similarity of their abundance ratios to those found in comets, implies that the rich organic.
